In my day job I get to run comics making workshops (it’s a hard life I know) and one of the first things we do in a session is to try to put the participants at their ease with drawing. We go through a few warm up exercises designed to take away the fear of the blank page and the expectation that you have to be an amazing artist to make comics. Those skills might help but as comics are mostly about storytelling rather than just ‘cool’ art, it is important to let the participants know that even with some some basic drawings like stick figures you can still tell great stories.
